Stand out against the competition
If an employer is considering you and a similar candidate, speaking Spanish can make all the difference! You’ll be more versatile to handle different clients.
According to ACTFL, nine out of 10 U.S. employers rely on employees with language skills other than English, reporting that Spanish is the most in-demand foreign language.
According to the US Census Bureau, the U.S. traded $296 Billion worth of imports and exports with Central and South America in 2021. Companies need employees to be able to handle this business! Earning accounts and managing relationships are all made easier and more favorable when we can connect in the same language.
A 2018 study from Ipsos Public Affairs, along with The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and Language Testing International made the following conclusion:
For U.S. employers, the demand for foreign language skills is greater than ever before. Whether it’s in the boardroom, in the field, with customers and partners, or on social media, companies today are increasingly more likely to conduct business in a language other than English. Consequently, a command in multiple languages is a valuable asset for U.S. students and employees—not only in boosting their marketability in the workplace, but in helping them thrive in a global economy.

Boost your qualifications
Looking for an official résumé booster? Revive your Spanish and prepare for a certification like the internationally recognized Global Seal of Biliteracy. This recognizes different levels of fluency whether you can function in routine, basic interactions or handle a variety of unfamiliar situations. (It’s more versatile than the relatively new high school state version of the Seal of Biliteracy in that it crosses state and national borders.) If you earn the Global Seal you can add the serial number of your certificate to your résumé or LinkedIn under “Licenses & Certifications.”
